Russell Manfield is a Senior Lecturer and Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the UQ Business School as well as the UQ Ventures Academic-in-Residence. His work is informed by his industry experience, which includes his early career as a mechanical engineer in the mining and telecommunication sectors, before starting new ventures in technology, agri-tech & workplace training domains. Russell delivers course in entrepreneurship, innovation and strategy and has built online courses covering corporate innovation, service innovation culture, innovation strategy for quantum technology and navigating the demands of 21st century work skills.

Both as an educator and in his role as Academic-in-Residence, Russell works with students and founders at the intersection of practice and research, collaborating with the UQ Ventures team in the ongoing development of new knowledge frameworks that assist the advancement of entrepreneurial learning and practice.

Russell’s research in entrepreneurship focuses on impact strategies for new ventures and new technologies to craft sustainable value frameworks. He leads and collaborates on research opportunities that target emerging economies, fast-evolving technology domains and design thinking pedagogy for new generations of innovators.

Russell is an Associate Investigator for EQUS (Engineered Quantum Systems), an ARC Centre of Excellence anchored at UQ which ran with 5 research nodes (UQ, ANU, USyd, Macquarie, UWA). He is delighted to embrace a sharp focus on critical thinking to enhance his teaching and research and to unlock new value for students and industry partners alike.
